Diego Maradona is one of the best football players of all time.
Argentina won the World Cup in 1986 thanks to him.
When he died, aged 60, Argentina even declared 3 days of national mourning.
But why was Maradona so famous?
Because he grew up in a slum in Buenos Aires before becoming the legendary king of dribbling and genius passes.
At 16, this prodigy turned pro and played for Argentinos Juniors club and then for Argentina! Unbelievable!
The whole country loved him and called him El pibe de oro: the golden kid!
Diego then joined Barcelona where he was voted best player in Spain before going on to Naples, a fairly average team that went on to become two-time champion of Italy, thanks to him!
Maradona is also famous for having scored a goal with his hand in a World Cup quarter-final match. He called it: “the hand of God”.
However, this gifted player started using drugs and had multiple health problems.
He stopped playing in the 90s and was awarded an honorary Golden Ball for his incredible career.
He then became coach for the Argentina team, but never took them to the top.
The team of Naples retired the number 10 shirt in homage to Maradona, the greatest footballer of all time!
